Berjaya To Catch RM700mil of MICE

Kuala Lumpur - BERJAYA Times Square Suites and Convention Centre has forecast gross sales of between RM600mil and RM700mil next year due to improved market conditions for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE), general manager Peter Gan said.

Based on our pre-opening bookings, we are looking at managing about six functions a week,·he said after a press conference to announce the room packages in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The 2,686 sq m convention centre, expected to open on Nov 15, has a pillarless ballroom, spacious pre-function room and 10 meeting rooms.

The 900 suites located beside the convention centre were expected to be opened in stages, Gan said. To date, about 200 rooms have been opened with a 50% occupancy rate.

He expect to open 100 to 200 rooms on a monthly basis. This will also depend on the demand,·he told StarBiz.

Gan targeted 60% of the room businesses to come from MICE, 20% from travel and tour groups and the rest from business and government sectors as well as sports organisations.

Next year, we aim to achieve a 10% higher than average revenue per available room, in comparison with other city hotels in Kuala Lumpur,·he added.
